Month of the Hedgehog
Believe it or not, there’s a call in Burleson’s called Hedgehog Love. You could use it this month.

I can’t think of any square dance relevance, but it seemed like such a weird thing to have a special day for that I had to list it. I suppose you could do Chuck Berry records, but that’s a real stretch.
I think every caller has a pet peeve (and if you read the sd-callers mailing list, you’ll agree with me). Here’s your chance to exercise your pet peeve. Hate highland fling dosados? Then spend this week calling dosado variations that’ll force those intransigent dancers to do dosados right, by golly. Dislike the way dancers circle to a line? Call “circle to a line and roll…” That’ll get ’em!
My personal pet peeve is grand square…I hate the three-step or two-step grand square. I try to always hit the phrase for the call (if I can’t, I won’t call it; I’ll substitute something else). But I’m not sure what else I can do to force the issue. For those of us who are technically inclined, there are reasons for not calling “Grand Square 6 steps”. I think I’ll just announce that it’s pet peeve week and ask dancers to indulge me…they can dance it if they really think about it.
In the Battle of the Sexes, Billie Jean King defeated Bobby Riggs in straight sets.
You could do your own little battle of the sexes: put the girls in the middle and call a bunch of stuff, and then put the boys in the middle. Encourage a competitive attitude. Or maybe have men form one square and women form another square.

In 1971, the last episode of the Beverly Hillbillies was shown. The show first aired on September 26, 1962.
The Beverly Hillbillies theme song was done as a singing call in 1984 (K 1297) (Maybe that\’s Kalox?). It\’s also used in a couple of medleys, including Theme Time and Couch Potato.
Since the Beverly Hillbillies both started and stopped in September, you could do Beverly Hillbillies stuff all through the month.

Buddy Holly was born in 1936, and died in a plane crash on February 3, 1959. His hometown was Lubbock, Texas. He has a New Mexico connection: he recorded his first hits at the Norman Petty Recording Studio in Clovis, New Mexico.
Hanhurst lists a singing call, \”That\’ll Be the Day\” on Top (25348), but I don\’t know for sure it\’s the Buddy Holly song. There’s also “Every Day” on Ranch House 901, but it’s not in print.
Maybe your round dance cuer uses other Buddy Holly songs: “Peggy Sue”, “Oh Boy”, “Maybe Baby”, “It’s So Easy”.
Buddy Holly also did a song called “You’re So Square”, about his attraction to a Lawrence Welkie. He also recorded a version of “Wait ‘Til the Sun Shines, Nellie”.

There are a couple of versions of \”I Will Survive\” available as singing calls.
