Special Anniversary Dance Weekend with Jerry Junck: Friday and Saturday, October 28 and 29
Join us at the ASDC for an Advance dance on Friday, October 28 from 7 to 9 pm ($5/person). Then, come on down on Saturday afternoon from 2 to 4 pm for a multi-level dance (MS through A2) sponsored by the Wilde Bunch ($4/person).
On Saturday night, Jerry will call the ASDC's annual Anniversary Dance, with Shirley and Don Underwood cuing rounds. Pre-rounds start at 7:00, and the square dancing starts at 7:30 (Mainstream with announced Plus and two rounds between tips) ($5/person).
Hope you'll join us for this special occasion!
The roof is just about done!
And the air conditioning is great! There were very few disruptins during the process...as far as we know, only the Wilde Bunch canceled a night of dancing...and that was on Labor Day. Reminder: we now need to keep the doors closed to keep the cool air in.
We're Raising the Roof
The ASDC is continuing its campaign to raise money for a new roof and refrigerated air conditioning (we're sure all of you who have suffered through this summer are happy to hear that!).
Future Raise the Roof events:
FolkMADS is holding a silent auction to benefit the Roof fund on Saturday, September 17, 2011. Be sure to come out and buy items at their dance, featuring caller Marj Mullany with music by the Albuquerque MegaBand.
Look for a big parking lot sale sometime in September! We'll be hitting you up for items to sell!
The ASDC kicked off its efforts on October 30th, 2010 with a crazy fun dance featuring local callers. Thanks to all the dancers (over 10 squares), we raised over $3500. That was a start, but we need to raise much more. We'll be working on this for the next several years. Remember, the ASDC benefits the entire square dance community!
We want to thank Duke City Singles, who presented ASDC with our first donation to the Raise the Roof fund: a $1000 check. Thanks, DCS!
We also want to thank Crazy 8s, who held a special Glow Worm dance on November 16th, and donated all the proceeds to the Roof fund, and the Wilde Bunch, who held a community C&W dance, donating the proceeds to the Roof fund.
The Albuquerque Dance Club held a special dance to benefit the ASDC, and we thank them for their generous donation.
Want to keep up with what's happening at the ASDC and other local square dance clubs? Sign up for our email list: contact Lin Miller at publicity@asdc.org and he'll send you occasional emails about local dances.
The ASDC is located at 4909-15 Hawkins NE (505-345-9797), one full block west of I-25, 1/2 block north of Ellison. Take the Ellison/San Antonio exit of highway, go west (away from Sandia mountains). Turn north (right) at the first intersection past the motels. This is Hawkins.
The Albuquerque Square Dance Center is a wonderful dance facility built by
square dancers for square dancers. Featuring two dance halls with great acoustics
and beautiful floating hardwood floors, the ASDC is used by multiple square
dance clubs, so there's a square dance happening almost every night of the week.
Learn to Square Dance!
You can learn to square dance at the Albuquerque Square Dance Center. Why
learn? Because square dancing is fun! Also, you get physical exercise, mental
exercise, and social contact: all important to your health. But the most important
thing is it's fun! It's a chance to laugh and fool around...and learn something
new at the same time. Once you've learned the square dance language, you can go
anywhere there's square dancing and join in...it's a worldwide activity.
